A revelation that becomes all too obvious when the migratory nature of storks takes effect during the winter months and Richard is left behind, along with the other sparrows.

Of course, a sparrow-who-thinks-he-is-a-stork is unlikely to let something like not being a stork get in his way. Which is how the movie pans out with Richard venturing off on his own stork migration to be with the other storks.
